Survivors’ pensions are paid if, upon death, the deceased member has paid contributions for at least 1 month.
Widow’s/widower’s pension and pension for surviving civil partners
After the death of a member, the widow or widower will receive a survivor’s pension until his/her death or remarriage.
The widow’s or widower’s pension is 60 % of the old age pension or disability pension to which the deceased member was entitled upon death.
This provision applies analogously to surviving civil partners in a registered partnership.
Lump-sum settlement
Widows or widowers who remarry will receive the following lump-sum payment:
- In case of remarriage before reaching the age of 35
60 times the last monthly pension - In case of remarriage before reaching the age of 45
48 times the last monthly pension - In case of remarriage after reaching the age of 45
36 times the last monthly pension
Orphan’s pension
After the death of a member, his/her children will receive an orphan’s pension up to the age of 18. Thereafter, up to the age of 27, an orphan’s pension will only be granted to a child who
- attends school or undergoes vocational training, or who,
- due to physical or mental infirmity, is not in a position to maintain himself/herself when reaching the age of 18, as long as this condition persists.
If education in school or vocational training is interrupted by compulsory military service, alternative civilian service or compulsory civil defence service, the pension will be granted beyond the age of 27 for a period in accordance with the duration of such compulsory service performed prior to turning 27.
The orphan’s pension is 20 % of the old age pension or disability pension to which the deceased member was entitled upon death for each orphan, and 10 % for each half-orphan.
The following will be regarded as children:
- Legitimate children
- Children declared legitimate
- Adoptive children, provided that they were adopted before the member reached the age of 55
- Illegitimate children of a member, provided that his/her maintenance obligation has been established
